Victoria Beckham's line *spiced* it up on the runway

I am and will always be a true Spice Girls fan.
My boyfriend is an even bigger fan of the gals and has a gigantic collection of Spice memorabillia including dolls, posters, magazines.  Yes, he does. I know.

Formerly known as Posh spice, Victoria Beckham has proved herself to be a true style icon both in england and the u.s.

Her book That Extra Half an Inch http://www.amazon.com/That-Extra-Half-Inch-Everything/dp/0061544493  reads as a helpful guide to the fashion weary and helps the everyday woman implant her wardrobe with classic go-to items that work as a foundation to become more fashion-forward.  The classic white tee, which kind of stripes work and which do not, the best sunglasses for your face shape, most flattering pant for your body type, etc. These are practical tips real women can use.

Being that Beckham is so naturally fashion-savvy, she decided to create her own line of ready to wear dresses.

A few pics from the recent NYC Fashion week 2010

Oh, and are we loving the glasses?  Because I am.

i could live in a hat.

Winter got you down?  Put on a nice knit hat and maybe it will make you feel a little more cozy and a little less exposed.  I love a good knit hat...

The slouchy ones are my favorite.

slouch.

Also, don't be afraid to get one from your local street vender if you are in new york city or somewhere which has great street venders.

I just found a cute black one at a vender on 14th/6th ave for $10...

Hoboken, NJ - a hidden gem for shopping and vintage.

When you think New Jersey, you usually think big hair and maybe GTL? Well, not the case for Hoboken.  Hoboken is not Jersey, in my book.  To me it is just another borough of NYC.  Just a breezy 10 minutes from the city by train www.panynj.gov/path/ (only $1.75) and the quaint little town supplies one with a gorgeous view of the Manhattan skyline along the Hudson River.

Another reason I love Hoboken: the shopping.

Not only does Hoboken have some of the cutest upscale boutiques full of extremely unique finds, but you will also find some of the best Vintage shops off the beat and path!

3 of my favorite hoboken boutiques:
bella ro http://www.bella-ro.com/ 521 washington st. a wide selection of unique clothing pieces and accessories.

dor l' dor  413 washington st- very stylish and affordable

anthology http://www.shopanthology.com/  - 7th and washington st- adorable funky dresses, shirts, leggings, and one of my favorite brands of jeans Flying Monkey.
www.anonymousvenice.com/flying-monkey-jeans/
They have the perfect amount of stretch to give you that flattering long-legged look.

flying monkey jeans -skinny jean

Down to Earth http://www.dtehoboken.com/ 527 washington st- owned by the sweetest lady. i found the cutest owl earrings there. Very different styles and most of their clothes have a vintage feel.

Now unto Vintage/thrift shops in Hoboken...

Revivial Vintage http://www.revivalvintageboutique.com/ 6th and Park Ave. just 3 aves down from Washington st. is a gem of a shop.  Seriously one of the best vintage shops I have ever been to.  Lindsey hand selects each piece with extreme care.  She finds many of her pieces overseas in Brazil or Europe and they are each so unique and fabulous.  The clothing is organized by decade so if you are looking for something with a 60s feel, you will be sure to find it.  Or need a chic cocktail dress but want it to have 30s flair?  She probably has the perfect one for you.  Looking for a Hermes bag from the 70s? Revival probably carries it, along with chic hats, shoes, boots, brooches, jewelry, and kitchenware all authentic vintage!  It's really an amazing shop and I recommend definitely checking it out.  It is worth the $1.75 train fare and stroll over.

O Mistress Mine http://www.omistressmine.com/ 211 Bloomfield st. - beautiful vintage pieces including dresses, furs, hats, and very special pieces of unique jewelry.

St. Mary Hospital Thrift Store 536 Garden st. http://www.maps.google.com/  is right up the street from Revival just one ave away. A great place to donate unwanted clothing/housewares! Here you will find very inexpensive clothing, and they will usually bargain with you on the cost depending on what it is.  I got a dress for $3 there once.  Their hours are a little funky though: Wed-Sat 12-5...a little odd!

Enjoy shopping in Hoboken.
Let me know what you find!

I heart Rodarte.

Went to Target and was so excited to see Rodarte had created a line that I can afford!  Layers and adorable hemlines make up the line at fashion week nyc.  It was actually inspired by Death Valley and vultures...   LAYERS, LAYERS, LAYERS and i could just eat em up.  Just a couple pieces from there '10 spring line:

notice the layering and the draping; love.

especially love the use of fabric here.

Now a few of their pieces from Target:

Alexander Mcqueen commits suicide...dies at 40 WHY?

I really can't believe it... Just heard the news and this man, this fashion icon, genius, chose to take his own life. Why? His architectural designs were synonymous with his name and he had a unique interpretation of texture and structure that no other can match. His legacy will live on.

50's Pin-up hairdos! Maybe? I say go for it!

Katy Perry rocks these do's all the time and it totally works for her. If you've got the confidence and the wardrobe to compliment then I say go for it!!

And of course, I have to mention my favorite hollywood icon, Marilyn Monroe who does the short hair pinup look...

Also, a fun thing to do for an instant pop of glam is add a flower to your pin-up hairstyle. It is so easy to make these fake flower headbands: simply find some fake flowers at a craft store or online and hot glue them onto a simple headband and voilla!
